Friday UPDATE:

Everyone,

It seems Lauberge duLac will be glad to have us for dinner.  We also have some late arrivers and those working so the time is now pushed back to 7:00 pm.  There is a lobby area at the entrance that we will gather around….look for the group.  It also is probably a think tank for Saturday dinner so be thinking of prospect for tomorrow dinner just before our Coolers gathering.  This weekend promises to be a good time for all of us and please help me by spreading the word to our classes on either side (69 and 71) to join in as they wish…they are welcome.  Anyone that is not being notified should be contacted if you are aware of them as well.  Thanks everyone for making this happen and I will see you this evening.

From a night of barbecue and beer at our Jack Daniel's® Bar & Grill to a midnight snack at the 24-hour Le CaféSM, there's a time and a place for everything.

The '69 & '71 classes on either side of us are also invited to the GATHERING.  I had no contacts, so my effort on this was practically none.  We can revisit this as a class, but I believe it is a great idea and we should do this from now on.  The more the merrier I think.  Anyway, there have been many invited (so I have been told) and I am for it.  We can see how it develops and go from there. Most of the '70 class knew the adjacent classes anyway.

Activity Update:
KPLC
was requested to post our gathering/reunion information on the Breakfast Bar (one week prior to activity).  They say they will post at no charge, any non-profit announcement affecting the community (and we are part of that community).  Our class gathering announcement  has also been added to the KPLC-TV Community Calendar...

The LaGrange High School Class of 1970 is having a 37 year class gathering/reunion April 28th (Friday 27th evening TBD) (Sun 29th brunch TBD).  Details on our class website http://www.lagrange70.com or email webmaster / 70-classmate dballmer@cox.net or call me at home (225) 273-2458 evenings after 5:30pm.  Any help in getting this information out to your viewers would be appreciated.  This venue was recommended by Lottie Rice Courvelle and suggested by some of the class as well.  I do appreciate the community of Lake Charles and was actually a volunteer serving as lodging coordinator for restoration of power to Lake Charles stationed out at Burton Coliseum during the Rita aftermath in the fall of 2005.  That was an amazing effort and restores my faith in the human race.  I work for Entergy and the River Bend Nuclear Power Plant in St. Francisville, LA (since 1984).

Hello world…LaGrange70

I have been spending a lot of time getting this gathering organized and attempting to keep it flowing.  I am sending a message with all the information to date…  A couple of things are changing and I suppose you all will be the third ones to know (I am the first, and Brenda was the second) LOL.  I called Coolers to speak to the owners about what we want to do and I got this girl (Debbie).  She was very helpful and said she was aware of the schedules so she advised me of the ~5:00pm time frame and that the band The Cadillac’s were playing.  Well, I got a call from her on my voice mail yesterday and I called back this evening.  She was not there and instead I actually got the manager of Coolers, Aaron RogersHe said that the scheduling of activities, entertainment and all management matters of Coolers was delegated to him by the owner.  Debbie is a bartender there and when she had talked to me The Cadillac’s band was scheduled to play but that has changed.  He was glad to be in touch with me about the gathering and suggested some changes.  He said he would love to host our group and Cooler’s Ice House would be able to accommodate us up to a couple of hundred (with the outside deck area).  He did say that some of the smokers would be able to smoke outside on the deck but not inside since it is a smoke free environment.  He also offered to book a band or a DJ for us (whatever we preferred) and they are picking up the tab for that.  They will be making the money through the drinks they sell and tips we offer the staff as they provide service.  He also thought it would be a good crowd to host since it would probably not have fights or too rough of a group.  I told him we hooped and hollered with the best and he is ok with that “after all we are a bar…” and that sounded good.  Aaron went on to say they are licensed for food but they had not gone that far just yet so if we wanted to bring in our own food it would be ok.  He did say that there was to be a Parrot Head Club crawfish boil that afternoon from 2:00pm until 6:00pm and it would primarily be out on the deck.  He asked if I would request that the class wait until 7:00pm to show up since they wanted to clean up the deck and get rid of the mess for our class (I said I would mention it to the class).  He just didn’t want to infringe on the Parrot Head Club nor our group.  He did say that if the Cadillac’s had been playing it would be extremely crowded due to the following they had in the area.  That band has fallen through anyway so he is asking for our input on what we would prefer.  The DJ can play any type of music and turn up or down the volume should we wish that.  He said they would take requests for songs and would probably give us a better venue for dancing if we want to.  He did say that he could try to get another band as well if that is our choice.  They stand to make a good night of it if we stay and continue to order drinks to patronize his bar so he wants to make us happy.  It all sounded good to me and I will be sending out this message and fielding emails for the next few days before I give him my suggestion.  How does it feel to be the first second third to know all this information?  What do you think?  You know, this level of information that I have disclosed comes with a responsibilityyou must give your opinion and suggestions…please…I want what you want.

Dallas

Ps – If there are classmates not notified on my listing (or incorrectly addressed), please help us by passing this information on to them and have them send me their email address and/or contact information.  This is all for the class to enjoy and I believe if we all work together, it should be fun and we will all pass a good time.  I will still be getting into LC Friday and intend on going to Coolers to meet any early-birds and talk to Aaron.

From Dallas Ballmer 03-25-07

We have had a change in location for the April class gathering/reunion.  Johnny Cooley has moved to Maurice, Louisiana and will not be able to host our 2007 Spring Gathering of the class.  The date is still for the weekend of April 27, 2007.  We are still planning to have something in Lake Charles around the parks and/or selected spot.  Right now I am still planning to be there to visit with as many of us that can come.  We can decide to just visit, golf or hang out at some agreed location like Coolers or Sam Houston.  As a class that has the experience in making things happen, I believe we can have a good time just hanging out or doing a BBQ at one of the parks.  If you are planning to attend, give me a contact number (cell phone number) I will be able to call you for information exchange.  I would really like to see everyone and pass a good time.

From Johnny Cooley May 18, 2006:

"April 7th is good. We can change weekends if some folks want to. Why don't you ask what weekend would be the best in April. The trees and flowers are in bloom later in the month. The 14, 21or 28th is fine with me. Later in the month is good. We can set it now so everyone can plan. With this website everyone will know about it. Let me know what you think. I will get with Calvin and see what he thinks. Thanks for all the work you are doing..."

From Johnny Cooley June 24, 2006:

"Would like to have reunion later in April next year. How about April 28th? My trees and flowers are in full bloom. Please make that change. Stay in touch".

OK...I need some feedback; as to suggestions and comments about us having another reunion next year at Johnny's farm or another place or another time...it really is a nice location.  I have heard some feedback on identifying ourselves with name tags as we had done at one of the other reunions.  With our failing memories, grey hair and differently formed physiques, it makes it difficult to tell who another person is that we may not have seen for a while.
